Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California , was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Congressman Harry Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor.

The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory:

On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.'

So Judy recently e-mailed Congressman Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle.

Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:

"Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.."

Salute to Vom

It is not every day that this Supermodel/Canine Commentator here in Hollywood, has the opportunity to make comment on the passing of another fine canine across the Pond, who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge and has followed the scent leading on to the great Pet Haven. This Commentator had never had the privilege of sharing a sit on the banks or a frisbee fetch with the renowned Vom ( he of The Farm , The United Kingdom ), but Yours Truly had been made aware of Vom's Life and Times , his adventures, his humans , and the span of his vision.

Swerve , the human who was owned by Vom stated , " Many people have one special dog during their life. I have a feeling that for me it was Vom " (see Vom pictured above in his usual , black and white Border Collie coat) .

Vom " is survived by a son, Bertie, at least one other son whose whereabouts is unknown – and quite possibly by a large number of other offspring in the vicinity of the farm " according the family .

In a message from the UK earlier this week, Swerve ( himself a political animal indeed) added, " Vom was a great old boy and will be sadly missed . Vom had charm, but above all he had character. It’s difficult to categorise Vom’s politics, but he would have – and did – despise the charming but, above all characterless new Labour project along with the new Tories. ... " .

Swerve continued , "In many ways, Vom was mongrel border collie born to single mother on a rough Derbyshire pig farm, Vom characterised the supposedly kinder, gentler, post-Thatcher era. Yet he would have been more comfortable on the extreme libertarian Thatcherite wing of the Tories than with the current soulless Labour or Tory parties – perhaps with a touch of Tom Paine radicalism about him too. " ...... Understood, Swerve . Hear ! Hear !

Vom was nearly 19 years of age and Swerve reminisced " Vom spanned several eras - born at the end of the Thatcher era, he saw two Gulf wars, four prime ministers (nearly five), four U.S. Presidents and God knows how many Tory leaders. Communism had just fallen when he came on the scene, Neil Kinnock was Labour leader and the internet was still unknown - except to a few scientists " (and of course, Al Gore , Swerve) . A renowned Thespian was quoted at the weekend saying , "Vom and I got on famously! He (Swerve) used Vom as a yardstick to judge people's characters!" We do rely upon the Wise in these ways ...

So You Think Man Can Destroy the Earth ?

You think man can destroy the planet? What intoxicating vanity. Let me tell you about our planet. Earth is four-and-a-half-billion-years-old. There's been life on it for nearly that long, 3.8 billion years. Bacteria first; later the first multicellular life, then the first complex creatures in the sea, on the land. Then finally the great sweeping ages of animals, the amphibians, the dinosaurs, at last the mammals, each one enduring millions on millions of years, great dynasties of creatures rising, flourishing, dying away –– all this against a background of continuous and violent upheaval. Mountain ranges thrust up, eroded away, cometary impacts, volcano eruptions, oceans rising and falling, whole continents moving, an endless, constant, violent change, colliding, buckling to make mountains over millions of years. Earth has survived everything in its time.

It will certainly survive us. If all the nuclear weapons in the world went off at once and all the plants, all the animals died and the earth was sizzling hot for a hundred thousand years, life would survive, somewhere: under the soil, frozen in arctic ice. Sooner or later, when the planet was no longer inhospitable, life would spread again. The evolutionary process would begin again. Might take a few billion years for life to regain its present variety. Of course, it would be very different from what it is now, but the earth would survive our folly, only we would not. If the ozone layer gets thinner, ultraviolet radiation sears earth, so what? Ultraviolet radiation is good for life. It's powerful energy. It promotes mutation, change. Many forms of life will thrive with more UV radiation. Many others will die out. You think this is the first time that's happened? Think about oxygen. Necessary for life now, but oxygen is actually a metabolic poison, a corrosive glass, like fluorine.

When oxygen was first produced as a waste product by certain plant cells some three billion years ago, it created a crisis for all other life on earth. Those plants were polluting the environment, exhaling a lethal gas. Earth eventually had an atmosphere incompatible with life. Nevertheless, life on earth took care of itself. In the thinking of the human being a hundred years is a long time. Hundred years ago we didn't have cars, airplanes, computers or vaccines. It was a whole different world, but to the earth, a hundred years is nothing. A million years is nothing. This planet lives and breathes on a much vaster scale. We can't imagine its slow and powerful rhythms, and we haven't got the humility to try. We've been residents here for the blink of an eye. If we're gone tomorrow, the earth will not miss us.

Sure, the EPA has now classified CO2 as problematic . But plants breathe it everyday, in every corner of Earth. CO2 an environmental problem ? I think that the issue is above the EPA's Pay Grade. There would be nothing organic growing on the planet were it not for CO2 . Who are we kidding ? Perhaps it is just a substitute for a Plant Kingdom Bailout. They cannot control the Plant Kingdom , so just control Plant Food . Then impose your Will upon the entire Kingdom . Aha .

3) Oh yes, and let us not forget one Daniel San Diego, Eco-wacko who targeted Chiron and Shaklee Cos. , and others , for their ties to Huntingdon Life Sciences, a British-based research firm that performs laboratory testing on animals, in order to provide better , safer products for humans. The blasts caused damage to the buildings, but no people were hurt ( YET ) . San Diego is a strict vegan and animal-rights activist who objects to animal testing. He's covered his body in tattoos of burning plains and buildings, including one on his chest that reads, "It only takes a spark."

As Scientist Dr . Freeman Dyson noted : Environmentalism has replaced ( actually renamed ) socialism " .

It has also helped many a lost soul in their attempts to find something to distract themselves of their feelings of non-purpose .

"We can no longer stand by and allow People of Inability to be ridiculed and passed over. With this legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to a small group of workers, simply because they do a better job, or have some idea of what they are doing."The President pointed to the success of the US Postal Service, which has a long-standing policy of providing opportunity without regard to performance. Approximately 74 percent of postal employees lack job skills, making this agency the single largest USPrivate sector industries with good records of nondiscrimination against the inept include retail stores (72%), home improvement stores; the DMV also has a great record of hiring Persons of Inability (63%).Under the Americans With No Abilities Act, more than 25 million "middle man" positions will be created, with important-sounding titles but little real responsibility, thus providing an illusory sense of purpose and performance. Mandatory non-performance-based raises and promotions will be given, to guarantee upward mobility for even the most unremarkable employees. In the last two years of the Bush Administration with a Democrat Majority in the United States Congress , they attempted to out a scheme perpetrated by Democrat Congressman Barney Frank , known for (amongst other things) having run a gay prostitution ring out of his home , headed by Barney's former lover . But for the past 2 years , Barney's pals in the Dems obstructed exposure of the scheme . This scheme was perpetrated by Frank , Dem . Sen Chris Dodd , and their pal at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (lenders) named Franklin Raines , who has made off ( Not Madoff) with $90 Million he scammed on this scheme . Jamie Gorelick , Clinton lawyer , made $25 million in the scheme .

The Dems in power resisted exposure of the scheme , which was a continuation of 2 previous Democrat Presidents : Jimmy Carter and Clinton . It was an Affirmative Action in Lending , and was enshrined into Legislation under Jimmy Carter , expanded under the Clinton Administration , and called the Community Reinvestment Act . This was a money-making scheme put into full play by Franklin Raines , Barney Frank , Sen . Chris Dodd , and others , almost entirely members of the Democrat Party , which is now in ideology very much like a European Democrat Socialist Party , with corrupt Union/Gang style underpinnings , now run by gay Prostitution Pimps .

A couple of weeks ago, speaking about the future of failed government-backed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Barney Frank was quoted by the New York Times as saying:
"There is a commitment to restructure these companies, and we are going to want to retain a hand in the things that matter, like affordable housing and making sure that the housing economy doesn’t become a threat to the entire economy again." Frank still can’t figure out that it was his policies and the policies of other Democrats to make loans to low income people and those with poor credit which resulted in the massive failures of Fannie and Freddie in the first place. It was Frank and his allies who blocked Republican efforts to regulate the two to prevent a catastrophic failure from occurring. And now Frank wants to do the same thing all over again .

Frank is currently drafting legislation to control what is done with the remaining $350 billion of the $700 TARP bailout package passed with large Democrat support late last year.In a nutshell, instead of kicking deadbeats out of their homes as should be done, Barack Obama is going to give them free money or pay their mortgage payments for them. Basically, people will get free houses in order to hide the mistake they and the politicians made . During the Clinton Administration , Attorney General Janet Reno was busy threatening mortgage Lenders if they did not make the bad loans forced upon us all by Legislation that began with Carter , and was expanded under Clinton . What really nauseates is that Barney Frank, who belongs in an orange jumpsuit and in leg chains, and who is championing homeowner bailouts, is largely responsible for creating the mortage crisis in originally . Democrat Barney Frank was instrumental in causing the subprime mortgage crisis .

President Bush had been warning for years that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were growing out of control, taking on too much risk, and posed a huge systemic risk to the economy of the United States. None of the major news organizations has reported this. In April 2001, Bush said Fannie Mae was “a potential problem,” because “financial trouble of a large GSE could cause strong repercussions in financial markets, affecting federally insured entities and economic activity.” It turns out Bush was right. He was also right about the need for expanded , domestic oil drilling back in 2001 . He was right about the Surge. He was right about a lot of things and not given an ounce of credit for it. Not only was he not given any credit, but he has been bashed repeatedly and blamed for things that he had nothing to do with, such as the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which was the fault of the Democrat mayor of New Orleans and the Democrat governor of Louisiana who failed to order mandatory evacuations in a timely manner despite pleas from Bush.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were regulated by Congress. Because of this, there is little to nothing that Bush could have done without action from Congress to prevent the massive failures that occurred in 2008. Democrats do not seem to realize that the power of the President is limited. It is Congress that writes laws and spends money, the President can only approve or veto legislation.Back in 1999, people were sounding warning bells about Fannie and Freddie. The Clinton administration was pressuring Fannie Mae to expand their operations to purchase more loans from originators that were made to people with poor credit ratings and low incomes. This affects not only every American for generations to come , resulting from "bailouts" , but also the rest of the world , as bad loans were re-packaged as fancy , international instruments , and sold throughout the world . You have Barney Frank , Franklin Raines, Chris Dodd , Maxine Waters , Clinton Lawyer Jamie Gorelick , and countless other Democrat hacks to thank for this rackett .

The Obammunists are presently losing popularity , even in the eyes of some of the gullible who refused to look at Obama's clearly radical past record , instead choosing to believe his teleprompter , who professed to the world his "hope" and his "change" . These are about to get The Memo on what all this will mean to them , in various ways , such as 1) a highly taxed " cap and trade" US policy , which will mean higher prices and expenses for everyone , but sound so noble . 2) They will be receiving higher taxes on inheritances they leave and receive ; 3) possible taxes on their previously tax-free health benefits , 4) a lower value of the dollar , and higher taxes on fuel, to name but a few negative consequences . Unfortunately , the rest of the country and the world is affected , and will also have to suffer economically for the Frank Follies . As long as the paid crowd with pitchforks in Fairfield, Connecticut keep up their little drama , perhaps we can all be distracted by the feigned shock of the On the Hill Gang . On the other hand, one of Dodd's fine houses are located in that same fine state . Think about it .

It could be stopped in the U.S. Congess if The People get smart, and tell them to stop Cap & Trade from passing .

Did you think that "being green" with "Cap & Trade" would just affect the big corporate "bad guys" ? Think again .

The USA would have a positive balance of trade worldwide were it not for the fact that its politicians refuse to allow The People to use American energy . Using the "research" of junk science developed by "researchers" being paid to research , and also being paid if that research proves to back their positive hypothesis , Cap and Trade will be a tax that will raise the prices of home and business energy use, the price of your tennis shoes, your gasoline, your home heating, your boss's expenses in running the business that employs you , and causes an increase in the U.S. trade deficit , further lowering the value of your dollars .

Were the USA to use its own oil and natural gas resources , which are abundant, and still untapped, rather than importing oil ( even from Mexico ) , there would be no balance of trade deficits for America , and no threat of your energy use being taxed into scarcity and highly priced shortage . The USA exports more in product variety and quantity to Mexico than Mexico does to USA . However , in dollar value, even Mexico imports more to USA than USA to Mexico . This is solely because America refuses to use its own petroleum resources , and imports Mexico's

oil .Cap and Trade is a tax that the Obammunists want for you , that would worsen this for American , and benefit only the politicians .

Since "Cap and Trade" is based upon the unproved and false theory that Carbon emissions are a threat to climate , we import what we already have , following our nonsensical U.S. energy policy.The USA buys abroad what we do not need to import , to maintain an appearance that we are not the type to drill oil ! Surely we would not do any of that nasty drilling . Not us . No . Let's let Mexico do it , and we shall pay them for what we dare not extract ourselves . The USA has new, clean methods of extracting oil and natural gas . We have new , clean methods of extracting it from shale in abundant supply in our own Rocky Mountain states that would give America an oil supply bigger than Saudi Arabia's . Paying Mexico, Canada and Saudi Arabia for what we could supply ourselves, which would lower our taxes, create more jobs, prevent and lower inflation , and correct the USA balance of payments deficits is madness . It benefits politicians . Not the American people . This is why they are doing a jig , planning for a windfall of YOUR tax money from Cap & Trade, partying , and oh yes.... always wishing to LOOK green while taking your green . But you won't notice . Or will you ?
